0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. it has bright colorful pages and easy to read sentences By Becky Dempsey This book is a simple retelling of the story of Ruth and Naomi from the Bible. It is geared toward kids 4-8 years of age and is classified as "Reading with Help" level 2. As with other books in this series, it has bright colorful pages and easy to read sentences. The book mostly follows the Biblical account of the story with some simplification (it doesn't talk about the Kinsman redeemer aspect). There were a few things that bugged me about the book, however. First, it opens with Elimelech, Naomi, Mahlon, and Chilion pictured at home in Israel. The boys appear to be about 4-6 years old. It says that they "had to move far away". The Bible just says that they moved to Moab and I always got the impression it was a lack of faith that caused them to leave. But that could be my own opinion, I guess. But the very next page in the book mentions "one day...Naomi's husband died and later, her sons died, also". No mention of the ten years they'd been there and suddenly there are wives of the sons. It is confusing as to why there are wives when the boys seemed to be so young. I thought that would be confusing to kids. When Naomi returns to Israel, the book says she was happy to be home. The Bible seems to disagree since Naomi told everyone to call her Mara which meant "bitter" (doesn't seem to happy to me). Also the book says that Naomi was so thankful that Ruth and Boaz got married that she jumped in the air. I felt this was quite a stretch from the Biblical account. Overall, I thought the book was nice and would be good for beginner readers to be able to read stories from the Bible. I would just recommend having them read it to you so you can supplement and explain further.I received a free copy of this book to give my honest review through the zblogsquad program. All thoughts and opinions are my own and I received no other compensation.

Our family does not own the Adventure Bible, NIV or the Adventure Bible for Early Readers, so I cannot compare these books to those (to see if the content is duplicated). We do, however, own both the Adventure Bible for Toddlers and the Adventure Bible Storybook, and I can tell you that the wording and illustrations are not duplicated across these three editions. The books in the I Can Read! / Adventure Bible series are worded with simpler phrasing and shorter sentences than you will find in the Adventure Bible Storybook.Ruth and Naomi is a re-telling of the story of Naomi's family which can be found in the Bible in the book of Ruth. The story continues all the way through to the birth of Jesus, which I appreciate. I did find a couple inconsistencies/literary freedoms in this book, but overall I think it is well done and is easy to understand. The story is accompanied by big, colorful illustrations. At the end of Ruth and Naomi is a page containing "People in Bible Times" (which has an illustration of Ruth and Naomi accompanied by short descriptions of each and quotes Ruth 2:12) and "Words to Treasure" (Ruth 1:16).The I Can Read! / Adventure Bible series are categorized as reading level 2 ("Reading with Help") and the stories do not feel "choppy" like you might find in some learn-to-read books. With a retail price under $4 per book, I find these books to be a great value.FTC Declaration: The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book or advanced reading copy. This does not change the fact that I will give my honest opinion in my reviews.

By J:-)mi “High Interest Stories For Developing Readers”“Simple Sentences For Eager New Readers”“Ideal For Sharing With Emergent Readers”Doesn’t this sound like what you want for your kid/s? You go to the library, browse the shelves and pull out all the leveled reader books on your child’s level. Biscuit, Fancy Nancy, Pony Scouts, Amelia Bedelia, the latest Disney books, animal fact books… and Bible Stories! Thanks to Zonderkidz, basic Bible stories are in leveled reader form. If your library doesn’t have them, just request them. They fit right in amongst the other leveled readers. The Zonderkidz books are part of the I Can Read! Leveled Readers. The nature of the I Can Read! leveled readers is books with bigger text, common sight words and vocabulary pertaining to the story. It does not focus on basic phonics skills, so it isn’t ideal for brand new beginners, more for those who have already developed a little bit in their reading skills. In this series, the vocabulary that would be hard to read is the Bible names, objects and places. It basically gives your children the opportunity to turn Bible words into common sight words. Each book contains:- A Bible verse- A summarized Bible Story written for children- Colorful cartoon illustrationsPsalm 79:1-7 – O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter hidden things, things from of old-- what we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done. He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.Thank you to the publishers for providing me with a free review copy of Ruth and Naomi in exchange for my honest opinion! I tested it on an all-most 4 year old and it met with her approval :-)
