From New York Times bestselling author and former NFL player Tim Green comes a riveting new stand-alone football novel.
When Ryan's estranged father unexpectedly dies, Ryan learns that he has inherited the Dallas Cowboys. With his new role as owner of this NFL team, Ryan has high hopes that he can be more than just a middle-school misfit. Maybe he can even get off the bench and into the starting lineup of his own football team.
With the help of his friends Jackson and Izzy, Ryan takes advantage of his newfound stardom. He convinces his coach to use a tricky passing offense that plays to Ryan's strengths.
But just when things are looking up, Ryan's nasty stepmother makes a legal play to make her own son the Cowboys' kid owner. With drama heating up both on and off the field, Ryan quickly realizes he may lose much more than just the Dallas Cowboys.

From School Library Journal Gr 4–7—Ryan Zinna is crazy about football but is concerned that his small stature and questionable skills will relegate him to second-string status on his middle school team (and second-class status in the school's social hierarchy). Then suddenly, Ryan's world is turned upside down when the father he never knew dies and leaves him partial ownership of the Dallas Cowboys. Becoming an instant celebrity is heady stuff but doesn't help Ryan in his struggle to secure a spot on the team, where his coaches and teammates continue to ignore him. Supported by his mom, his huge (and hugely talented) friend Jackson, and a smart and independent-minded girl named Izzy, Ryan soldiers on, enduring the contempt of the more established players. He also finds that owning a sports franchise is more complicated than he would have imagined, as team officials seem intent on manipulating him to achieve their goal of firing the coach. Ryan takes to the coach, however, who tutors him in the ways of the West Coast offense, which requires not a rifle-armed quarterback but rather one who is smart enough to recognize and exploit weaknesses in the defense. When injuries give Ryan a chance to start a game as quarterback, he uses the coach's offensive scheme to maximize his talents. More challenges lie ahead, however, as the executor of his father's estate reveals that controlling ownership of the Cowboys will be determined by a competition between Ryan and his arrogant half-brother, Dillon. Everything comes down to the performance of the boys in the game between their competing middle school teams. VERDICT With his signature short, cliff-hanger chapters and snappy dialogue, Green has produced another smooth, well-crafted middle grade sports novel.—Richard Luzer, formerly at Fair Haven Union High School, VT
Review “With his signature short, cliff-hanger chapters and snappy dialogue, Green has produced another smooth, well-crafted middle grade sports novel.” (School Library Journal)“Ryan is believably naive and dazzled by his new situation. Sports fans will be, too.” (Booklist)
From the Back Cover
Ryan never knew his dad, nor the fact that he owned the Dallas Cowboys. But when his father dies unexpectedly, Ryan is given a rare and amazing opportunity to be the owner of the NFL team. Not only is this a dream come true, but it gives Ryan a chance to make it in middle school without being a total social misfit. It may also help him rise up off the bench of his football team and break into the starting lineup.
With the help of his friends Jackson and Izzy, Ryan quickly takes advantage of his newfound stardom. He convinces his middle-school coach to use a tricky passing offense that's more suited to his own quick thinking and limited arm strength. But just when he thinks things are looking up, Ryan's nasty stepmother appears and makes a legal play to install her own son as the Cowboys' kid owner. With drama heating up both on and off the field, Ryan quickly realizes he may lose much more than just the Dallas Cowboys.
New York Times bestselling author and former NFL defensive end Tim Green delivers a high-energy story that is a sports lover's dream come true. And with gripping family drama and captivating sports action, readers won't be able to stop turning the pages.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Kept My 7 yr old's interest (& Mom's) from start to finish! By Mary P. Livingstone (Blake) I bought this for my 7 year old boy who loves all sports- not just football. I wanted a book that was several grades above his level, that I could read to him and that would augment his interest in reading. This one hit the mark! It is so well written and engaging that I even read ahead to the end to see what would happen when my son was at school! That says a lot - because I am a Mom, oil and gas attorney, and not a big fan of football! As a bonus, this ended up being a huge bonding experience for us. He loved our special time reading this book and even wrote about it in his first grade Valentines assignment about love. "....Love is reading Kid Owner with my Mom!"
