The gender war is over -- and if it isn’t, it should be.
Most people are willing to work for gender equality that leads to positive and productive relationships with the opposite sex. Applying the current social and interpersonal tools available often leaves them feeling frustrated and exhausted. These "best practices" are built on a flawed adversarial system of “us vs. them” which perpetuates the gender gap – a divide between men and women. Mike Marvin and Christina Lopez help men and women get beyond the divide and experience the power of working together.
As Marvin and Lopez collaborated, they concluded that true equality cannot be achieved until this gender gap is addressed and the culturally-reinforced division between men and women is eliminated. When men and women appreciate and learn from each other, they find new pathways to the social and civic change for which we are all striving.
The thought-provoking, strength-based solutions proposed by the authors rely on principles they have developed while interacting with thousands of people in work, educational, and family environments. Marvin and Lopez present their insightful, in-depth wisdom based on their research, training, and experience. The result is a relatable and practical guide which helps men and women navigate their personal and professional relationships.

By Cari Matejka A refreshing approach and a call to higher standards...I love how the author's infuse the practice of virtues and high expectations from ourselves to understand, relate and learn from each other. This was an insightful approach and focus on strengths with easy solutions and practices that build instead of blame. Examples clearly illustrate fresh concepts. This is a must read for anyone who wants a positive, proactive, powerful environment conducive to collaboration, understanding, and the ideal combination for productivity! Personally or professionally, this creates cohesive unity!

You will come away from reading this book with a different perception of the opposite sex... and perhaps your own By Dan Marvin Today's workplaces and classrooms are a powder keg and our preconceived notions of gender are the match. In 'Beyond the Divide', Marvin and Lopez defuse the situation by giving us a safe zone to explore what life looks like through the eyes of the opposite sex. Well written chapters include exercises designed to give insight into our own beliefs and contrast them with the beliefs of others. The book stands well on its own or works in support of the live seminars. A must read for anyone who has ever griped that there's no 'instruction manual' for the opposite sex.

By Forrest Marvin As a long-time tech industry worker, I've been able to observe a lot of the ways that the 'Gender Gap' is approached in the tech and engineering world. I've sat through third-party seminars, talked to consultants, been part of gender-inclusion and diversity initiative, and met with professional groups such as SWE and WIE.It's really refreshing to finally see a book that actually advocates an approach that includes BOTH genders actually interacting and trying to understand each other. It seems like a lot of organizations nowadays have good intentions, but take an approach that can be alienating at best. This book is really one of the only places I've seen the subject approached in a way that makes sense to me, and actually seems serviceable in the real world. Of course, that's not surprising, as Mike and Christina have spent years talking to real people, holding seminars, and getting feedback to refine their approach. As with any project in the technical realm, iteration and continuous improvement is the key to success.I highly recommend picking up a copy of this book, and I was very happy to be a beta-reader and watch the final product come together.
