By Amazon Customer Charmaine Thaner goes above and beyond her call...compassion for students and their parents is reflected in this Parent's Guide. The Art of Advocacy: A Parent's guide to a Collaborative IEP Process is very easy to read and understand. The many examples of conversations, scenarios, forms to download and conflicts make any parent feel secure and confident to move forward to advocate for their child successfully before and during the IEP meetings. I wish I would have had access to this guide during my child's earlier educational years, but it is never too late. I believe that the information in this guide can also be used to help your child self-advocate for their future years. I love the Art of Advocacy and can relate to the guide because of my personal experiences with the IEP process. By Mike Galvin As a school principal who has worked and learned with Charmaine Thaner in a variety of special education situations, I can attest to the effectiveness of the strategies she so skillfully presents in her book. As a parent you’ll find lots of technical knowledge and support for navigating the difficult waters of the special education system. But perhaps more importantly, you’ll find a coach who can help you develop the courage and perseverance that you’ll need to become your child’s first and best advocate. Charmaine’s passion for creating the best possible program for every child shines through every page of this work. I highly recommend this well written and thought out “IEP Bible”!
