Encouraging Weekly Devotional By Dorothy Murphy "I wish that Lee Binz was older than she is, because that means this book would have been written when I started home educating my two, now grown, children. It is as though a friend has sat down beside you to whisper needed encouragement into your tired, anxious ears. ‘Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body. Proverbs 16:24’ Having second thoughts about your calling to educate your children outside of the school context? Lee’s beautiful weekly devotional will turn your heart back towards God and your children."~ Dorothy Murphy, Home Educating Parent and Exam Tutor in the United Kingdom

It's been quite a struggle this year so far and I had been considering putting both of my kids back in school.....until I saw Lee's email about her newest book. I purchased and started reading it immediately. The words in this book were exactly what God wanted me to hear at that moment! I will continue pressing on through this journey with my kids!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I love Lee Binz By Sara I love Lee Binz! I love everything she writes. It's like she is writing directly to me and only me. The LORD uses her to show me things that I would never see on my own. She writes truthfully, and gets straight to the point. I like that, and a hint of humor from experience, and lessons learned. Lee does write from experience, which makes me all the happier to read and learn that I am, in fact, not alone. And she will always be right there to cheer you on and make it all clear. I like this particular book because it's a once a week devotional, (that I actually read almost every day and enjoy every single day!), and she makes it feel so personal. I am homeschooling a Kindergartner and a Second Grader, so my family isn't even close to being ready for High School, but it all still pertains to us. Especially me. About 3-4 times a month I feel like I am in well over my head. And every time I say so to my husband, he reminds me to pick up The Good Book and read some more of Faith by Lee. He enjoys Faith, as well! Everything she writes, I put to good use in our homeschool. She knows her stuff, and I trust her honesty. She is constantly reminding me to take our homeschooling and life one day at a time. Just as the LORD intended. Lee is humble and makes me feel ever so confident that I can do it, too! With God all things are possible, and with Miss Lee Binz, I feel like I'm sitting down to visit with a friend.

Multiple Voices Speak of the Reality of Life As An Adoptee By gayle h. swift Adoption is complex and this anthology of adult adoptee voices enriches our understanding of the adoptee experience. Each story is unique and offers insight into what adoptees need as they parse a lifetime affected by adoption. The authors share with courage and honesty. Much of their experiences is contrary to long-established cultural myths and thus sere an important reframing of adoption practices and adoptive parenting. After all, who better to help us understand adoption than those who live it first hand? As an adoptive parent I appreciate the authors' willingness to share their hard-earned wisdom. It helps me to better parent and to better support other adoptive families.--Gayle H. Swift, "ABC Adoption & Me"

Each of us, as Mei-Mei Ellerman so eloquently reminds us in her dedication, must fight innumerable battles to win our own authenticity. These offerings from those who know this only too well are a wonderful gift to us all.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Lots of great advice and encouragement for dads By Paul Mastin It's great being a dad. That sums up the new book from the National Center for Fathering (www.fathers.com), It's Great Being a Dad. Carey Casey, Jay Payleitner, and Brock Griffin have put together a collection of their essays on fatherhood to help us fathers be more effective in our role. Covering a wide array of subjects, It's Great Being a Dad has something for every dad to improve as a father and to enjoy his children more. The good: In their work with NCF, these three writers have gathered anecdotes and academic studies to illustrate their points and encourage fathers at every stage of life. In 93 short chapters, they have plenty of wisdom to share. Some of the high points and recurring themes: be intentional, make your kids a priority, pray for your kids, take time for them, be committed. The chapters can be read in any order, and take just a couple of minutes to read. The bad: With the bullet-point nature of the 93 chapters of the book, there's not much flow to it. I suspect these chapters were written as e-mail or newsletter updates, for which they would be perfect. Gathered into book form, they read like, well, a random collection of e-mail or newsletter updates. I realize that sounds like a petty criticism, but I read the book cover-to-cover, which is the wrong way to read this book. . . .In terms of the actual content, I fully endorse the authors' message. Their advice and encouragement is spot-on. Each father who reads It's Great Being a Dad will find at least a few essays that hit home. Almost all of them will ring true with any dad. I appreciate the NCF and this book, because even though it's great being a dad, it's not always easy being a dad. It's Great Being a Dad is full of great reminders for me as I try to be the best dad I can be.Thanks to NetGalley for the complimentary electronic review copy!

It is a book that children will be able to relate to and understand as they journey through life.Children get so close to their grandparents. Talasi was no exception. She spent a lot of time with her grandmother on a mesa in Arizona. She loved the peace and quiet of her home and she loved her grandmother. One day her life changed forever and she had to move to the city. Not only did she lose her grandmother who she loved with all her heart but she also had to adapt to a new school and start a life in a large city.Talasi was very resilient and she did make a new life for herself. Talasi does this by remembering the stories and songs that her grandmother shared with her. She carries her grandmother in her heart every day and that gets her through the tough times. The illustrations in this book are absolutely awesome and inspiring. I have never seen a children's book with quite so much detail and splendid color which brings the story to life. The art work is also very expressive. What a GREAT book for children! It is a picture book that will be enjoyed by children and adults of all ages for many years.

A loving picture book By jb having already beena fan of Cromwell after her earlier books (Are You Listening,Potbelly?, Wiggle-Dee-Dee, and Splash Puddle Splash) I was excited to see that she has written another book for young children. Talasi is a wonderful story about a young Hopi girl named Talasi, who lived on a mesa in Arizona with her grandmother. One day Talasi learned that she would have to move to the city, which meant that she would not only have to leave behind her life with her grandmother, but she also have to go to anew school and make new friends in a big city. In short, her life would change from everything she knew and loved.Talasi's grandmother, however, had given her the tools to start over. By remembering the stories and songs that her grandmother taught her she was able to keep her grandmother and their shared traditions in her heart. These memories helped her to adjust to her new life and to get through the struggles she sometimes faced. It's a story about love and loss, and also about how to begin again. The illustrations in this book are simply wonderful. The pictures bring the story to life...one can almost picture oneself with Talasi as she goes through her days. The colors and the details are beautifully done. This is a great children's book, a story that can be shared with children and grandchildren. Cromwell has once again found a way to touch the hearts of children!

I got this book for my brother and sister-in-law who have a daughter in high school with the intention of just skimming through before sending it on. To my surprise, it hooked me. Loved the preface that told how the author went from accountant to educational consultant simply by identifying a need and putting in lots of hard work to learn about and fill a need all too real for millions of families with children heading toward college. By the time I finished the book I wished it had been available to me when my kids were heading to college and I wished it had been available to send to my brother sooner. Easy to read, entertaining and informative.

I like how Jamie also makes you come to grips with reality on a pre-college teen's motivational concerns and the parental role in guidance. Very good book...you can tell she's an expert. I have nothing at all negative to say about this book. Jamie personally helped a great friend of mine get her kids into Vanderbilt, Auburn and Carnegie Mellon and my friend didn't go broke!
