7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Must-Read Bedtime Stories Inspired by Real Kids with Cancer. Wow! By BookDad Two reasons why I love this book! First, the "modern-day fairy tales" are the perfect length for bed-time stories. And we needed something more than Hans Christian Andersen. :) My nine-year-old daughter loved Shannon Hale's tale of "Warrior Princess" when young Lilly prepares to battle a goblin army. And we loved Tyler Whitesides' story about little Fire Chief Korbyn and how he keeps saving the day. We seriously giggled and laughed throughout the whole story. And the photos in each chapter are amazing. But the second reason why I love this book is what it's teaching my daughter. Before each story there is a bio of a real child who is featured as the fictional character. And here's the clincher: the bio explains what kind of cancer he or she is fighting. For example, Lilly is the only known person to be born with a rare form of cancer and survive. And Korbyn, who is fighting an acute form of leukemia, has a dream to be a firefighter because he wants to help people, just like so many people have helped him. My daughter asked, "Why do these kids have cancer?" which led to a great discussion and then my daughter said, "If I get cancer I'm going to be strong like Lilly." Thank you, Lilly and Korbyn and all the other kids and authors who helped make this book happen. Thank you for showing us what a "true hero" really is.

I love the introduction of each child. You can really tell this book is an act of love. There is a QR code to go with each story which takes you to extra details, pictures and videos about the photo shoots. I have never seen that before. There are so many layers to discover. My 13 year old says Jon Diaz should make more books. He loves the stories and reading about each child. This book is a must have for everyone. You will walk away inspired and ready to face the obstacles in your life with strength. My wife and I love to read such stories to our younger grandchildren, and to hear our older children recount the adventures they've been on in the books they've read. "True Heroes" is filled with exciting tales written especially for and about children battling cancer. True life stories of these children and their dreams, accompanied by gorgeous photos, and an individualized fantasy or fairy tale fill this beautiful book.I've enjoyed the fairy tales, but the highlight of the book is the stories of the youngsters featured in the photos. I want my grandchildren to know these "True Heroes" and their stories. I think the photos are stunning. I appreciate the QR codes found on the introduction page for each story. The code will open the page for the youngster's photo shoot, where you can see more photos and read additional information about the youngster.I highly recommend this book.
