They are really great stories, very well written and engaging characters.Lisa Greenwald knows how to keep you interested throughout the whole book. If you are an adult looking for something to read with your middle grade child - I would highly recommend this one. It will be relatable to your middle grade child and it will keep your attention too.The characters are relatable, with flaws. You will be comfortable letting your middle grade child read about the actions and language these characters display. The situations were age appropriate and the parents were a part of the story.I hope there will be more to the Pink & Green series.More reviews at Ope's Opinions.com

Pink and Green is the New Dishwasher Grey By carb101 I read the previous two books out loud to my daughter, so we were both curious to learn what Lucy was up to. What a disappointment! The previous two books had primary story arcs with additional story lines and exploration of girl feelings. This book had basically no story arc and was FULL of girl feelings - page after page of them. While I think the emotional boyfriend-girlfriends feelings were spot on for slightly older girls (and I feel like an authority here as my daughters are in 7th and 9th grade therefore bracketing Lucy's 8th grade), a book of nothing but Lucy's fluctuating emotions and not much else was a sad tale. She barely even went to Pink and Green and the only thing she did with the Eco Club was make an important presentation at the very beginning of the book and later not follow through on her composting idea. This series that has lost its way.

I really loved the first two, but this one kinda gives the impression that the author didn't have anything else to write about. This book is still okay. Though,sadly, it's not really the best.... I did like the others in the series and if you read them then you probably should finish it up. But if you liked the first two, I'd definitely recommend Wendy Mass's books, especially the Willow Falls series and the Twice Upon a Time, because those are great!

By Amazon Customer We are all looking for autonomy, mastery and purpose in what we do, it is no less with students. In Gayle Allen's work, "The New Pillars of Modern Teaching", the shift to the student and teacher as a "learning worker" is defined. Learning, according to Allen, is now about the design, curation and feedback. The book not only defines these three pillars, but gives a clear implementation including example web sites. The last chapter also clarifies the need to have students learn to fail faster. Failure is critical to learning so good students will need to fail quickly to learn and then move on. The teacher's role shifts to supporting this process.One weakness is the lack of understanding of the Quality movement in this process. Allen needs to reflect on expanding her understanding of feedback. Not only do you need to have a feedback loop so you can improve on a specific task, but you need a Quality Improvement process, not just feedback. The student needs to know what to improve, but they need to better understand why they came to that thought in the first place so they can truly change their thinking. Just getting feedback will not make you more efficient. To fail faster the student will need to reflect on how they came to that point in the first place, then modify their future learning.Over all it is a short, but excellent reflection on where things are heading.John Sonnenbergjohn.sonnen@aol.com

This is the 5th book in the Nugget series and I will miss the town and its charming inhabitants when the series ends. This time around, I particularly liked the fact that there was a Latino hero.

She goes from a selfish, manipulative teenager to an even more selfish, manipulative woman. That was easy to see on page one. I think I would have been fighting mad if Lucky had unluckily not wised up. Yeah, this book produced some strong feeling concerning the characters from me.Getting Lucky by Stacy Finz is the best of the Nugget series. I would highly recommend it to readers new to the series. Why? It has a wonderful man even if he is misguided in his love life. It has an adorable sick little girl with a wonderful hard working single mother. It has a romance that is worthy of the couple, a community that cares, and plenty of intrigue with drug dealers who need to get taken down.The plot is structured so that you are completely drawn into the story wanting to shake some sense into some and smack the daylight out of others! I love how Ms. Finz spices up a sweet story about family, hope and love by throwing in some mystery and suspense. I really enjoyed this story and I especially loved Tawny.Tawny Wade is in need of some good luck in her life. Her daughter has leukemia and is in need of a transplant that she can't provide. She's down to her last option - contacting her daughter's father and hoping that he would be a match and donate the bone marrow that she needs. But first she has to tell him ten years after their one night stand that he has a nine-year old daughter that she had kept from him. Tawny loved Lucky Rodriguez back in high school and kept the identity of her baby's father secret to protect Lucky back then, but Lucky only had eyes for Raylene, the daughter of the richest man in town.Lucky Rodriguez's successful career as a bull rider has earned him celebrity status in his hometown of Nugget, California but it wasn't always so. Ten years ago, Lucky narrowly escaped a false rape accusation when he left town suddenly and joined the rodeo. Now he's back and in for the shock his life when he discovers he has a daughter he never knew about and that he's her last hope for a much needed transplant.Lucky was a real stand-up guy, attractive, sweet, nice and honorable and a doting father to his daughter, but even nice guys have some weaknesses and Lucky's was Raylene. Lucky has loved her forever and was happy to rekindle his relationship with her but he seemed blind to her faults. It was really annoying that it took him almost getting into trouble AGAIN because of her to see how selfish and vindictive she really was. I love Tawny because she rolled with the hard knocks from life and turned them into positives. Her daughter was her number one priority and she was willing to share her with Lucky but she was smart enough to know that falling for Lucky again was a sure way to heartache.There was so much going on for everyone in this book. Lucky had to deal with a sick daughter, a demanding girlfriend, suspected criminal activity on his ranch including being named as a murder suspect. For Tawny, coming clean opened her up to new friendships and she learned to let people in and share her burdens. I love how the town stood by them and stepped up to support them through everything. This story is sure to make you love small towns and the close relationships and caring they offer and I definitely recommend it. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. A charming story of adoption By Cnett This is a very charming story.A little girl experiences Christmas with the family that has adopted her.She has the security of loving rituals in a cozy tiny house with many pets and special neighbors.She is surrounded by warmth and the love of her parents and the Christmas season.The simple and sweet drawings help set the tone.

Definitely pulls at the heart strings and has very nice illustrations. Would be a great bedtime read for any child in the holiday season.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great inspiration to live again By Dave Manning Although it has been several yeasr since my divorce, I wish I'd had this book when it first happened. Recovery can be difficult, and always emotionally trying. Janet's insightful perspective provides a guide for getting back to living life again with hope and optimism. Her description of the emotional roller-coaster and coming out of a sense of despair was so spot on that some of her words were exactly thoughts I had during my own healing. Especially relevant to me is her statement that healing comes from acknowledging the damage done, but no longer letting it control your life. This is a truly inspiring guide for anyone in the healing process struggling to live again.

The writing is sincere and covers all aspects of what to expect and tools to work your way thru each step.The author writes from experience and shares the wisdom of her loss, survival and triumph. It’s cleverly designed to include activities within each chapter that can be completed in the book and journaling pages at the end of each chapter. This keeps all ones thoughts, fears and desires in one place and encourages readers to use it as a workbook and journal.

When in times of trial and hardship it is easy to feel alone, to check out from the world, and hold everything in. It is extremely difficult to open up about hurtful times in life and Janet shared some very personal thoughts and feelings in a beneficial way to then help those struggling to move forward. Definitely a good read.

Father seems to be winning?until the young rabbit tells dad that he loves him right up to the moon?which his father agrees is very far away. But as he kisses his son goodnight, he replies, "I love you right up to the moon?and back." The watercolor illustrations are composed of scratchy lines and large areas of watery washes that are charming, but not too sweet. Large typeface and repetitive refrains invite beginning readers. I had to go back to work when he was 3 months old. She gave it to me one weekend and I sat and read it and just started crying. It was when I read that last line--I love you all the way to the moon and back--that really touched me. It made me realize how much I was missing my baby boy during the day. I also noticed that Big Nutbrown Hare waits until the little one is asleep to say the last line. That also reflects how much a parent loves a child. He would never want to outdo his baby just because he's bigger. He let Little Nutbrown Hare go to sleep thinking he won that little game. What a sweet, sweet story.

126 of 134 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful By Eva Monplaisier That's the most beautiful book for a young child that I know of. It perfectly expresses the mother's love. I enjoy reading it every night before my daughter goes to bed. I started to read it to her over a year ago when she was only two years old, and now she can read it with me. It has created a special bond between us. I highly recommend this book to any loving mother. In addition to that I also recommend a book series titled "Why Some Cats are Rascals ( Book 3)" containing lovely and inspiring stories for older children. 72 of 75 people found the following review helpful. Not competetive By A Customer This is a sweet, loving introduction to a familiar game that many parents have played with their child. I can't see it as being about competition. Perhaps some of the negative reviewers never played the game of "Guess how much I love you". But it was a natural part of childhood for my children. It wasn't about competition, it was about creativiity--thinking of ways of expressing love bigger than ever before. I wouldn't dream of trying to "oneup" my children. I just liked the silly answers we would come up with in playing.To all the naysayers, the last line of the book is ALL about letting the child "win". The father waits until the child is asleep in the assurance he has come up with the unbeatable answer, "I Love you all the way to the moon!" But as he sleeps and the father looks at this bundle of miracle that has been bestowed upon him he says what he feels, "I love you all the way to the moon, and back". The child doesn't hear this. The father is just expressing a love he can't even define it's so big. That's not competetive or mean spirited, it's a wonderfully realistic portrayal of having a feeling of love so big that you know there is nothing bigger.The pictures are great. I wouldn't go board book. This book is better for older children.Buy it and enjoy it.
