I recommend this book to people in all walks of life By Amazon Customer This book is as real as real can get.Kudos to the author for the courage to address such a difficult topic in such an unconventional writing style.Let's face it, abuse happens in both "Christian" and "Non-Christian" homes alike, it does not discriminate.This book is an eye opener and has the potential to awaken the one who has been lulled into a "Non-existent" state through verbal abuse, whether married or contemplating marriage.There is an explicit scene in the book but it happens between a husband and a wife. I wouldn't call that pronographic.The scene enabled me to understand how over time verbal abuse can escalate to physical abuse even within the confines of marriage.This book isn't meant to give advice, it's meant to give hope and it does just that!I recommend this book to people in all walks of life.

Dunn Even though I personally know the author and his family, I would have loved this book if I had not known them. This is a story of farm life in the South during the depression and wars. Though the father of six girls never had much money, he was one of the richest men in Tennessee. He had the richness of the love of his family. This book is for anyone that appreciates hard work and righteous living. Be prepared to deal with your own life's worth as you finish this book.

He has written a chronology of events in the lives of one rural Tennessee family over the decades as though he had been present with a recorder and a camera. There is such richness of detail that it took my breath away. I didn't doubt the authenticity of one conversation or one small incident that took place over the years.What makes this book so amazing is not that it's about an extraordinary family, but that the author has shown us what is so extraordinary in one average family's decency, commitment, hard work, and unconditional love.I highly recommend this book to anyone who can appreciate how family bonds can help us not only overcome trials, but bring us the highest joy.Cheryl Peyton

It comes straight from the love of Christ shining through Cliff & Evona in the battle they waged against cancer. God used their family through this battle. I know the ending is not what we wanted but God is Faithful. This is such an encouragement to see how he and the family choose Faith and God answered them by working in there life in miraculous ways. It is so wonderful to see God working in peoples lives in this way. It gives HOPE that GOD does LOVE us and wants to work in our lives. I am not saying that this road was easy nor one I would wish on anyone but if you are going through a trial this book will provide you a perspective that not to many people can give.

She's Miss June on the school calendar, homecoming queen, and big glamor girl Barbie. However when her long time boyfriend Warner breaks up with her because he needs a girlfriend that is more "serious" and can help him become president Elle decides she is going to prove herself very serious and follows Warner to law school. However from the first day Elle can tell Law School isn't really the place for a blonde. Plus she finds out that this totally unstylish, super serious looking Sarah is now engaged to Warner. However when things finally settle down Elle begins to find that law school isn't so bad. When she takes on the job as summer intern for Christoper Miles she finds that she is beginning to forget Warner. Now her new focus in life is this case about 23 year old Brooke Vandemark who is accused of murdering her 73 year old husband Heyworth Vandemark. It seems the only witness of the crime is Heyworth's 24 year old daughter Chutney. In the end Elle comes through with a trick any Cosmo girl would know to solve the case!I absoulety love this book!! Even though I aint blonde it was still very funny for me! I have seen the movie too and I just have to say I love them both.

A Must-Read By Erika Sorocco Elle Woods is devastated when her boyfriend Warner Huntington III breaks up with her, instead of proposing (like she had thought). Now Elle is on a mission to become a wholesome girl like Warner wants. Which is why she's on her way to Stanford Law School. It's now up to her to break Warner and his new fiance up, and claim the man she came for. But while at Law School she realizes she likes it very much, and even starts the BLDF (Blonde Legal Defense Fund).I recommend this book to all fans of the movie "Legally Blonde". While the book isn't exactly the same as the movie, it does resemble it, and is just as hilarious.

The author states that the book is based on her experiences at Stanford law, but as a recent law school grad, I find the book unbelievable at some points. For example, Elle takes all of her classes pass/fail. As far as I know, the American Bar Association doesn't allow first year classes to be taken pass/fail. And as helpful as outlines are, they are no substitute for class attendance (which is required in law school, or you fail automatically) and studying!The movie portrays Elle as a smart girl who works hard to get what she wants, the book portrays her as more of a spoiled brat who gets lucky.... I much prefer the former! Movie Elle wants to help everyone, book Elle only wants to help herself and other blondes.If you have seen the movie, you don't need to read the book, the movie is better.

About the Author Margaret Jess McKowen Patti is a third- and fourth-grade teacher of gifted students at Zachary Elementary School in Louisiana, where she recently received the Zachary Community School District Teacher of the Year. She attended Southeastern Louisiana University, earning her bachelor's in elementary education and her master's in special education/gifted education.

Worley As a mathematics instructor - albeit in a secondary context - and a former “gifted” student, I was excited to receive an advanced copy of this collective of lessons and activities to review. (I received a free copy through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program, but no other compensation.) I hoped to use some of the lessons and activities in this book to help my older students regain the number sense they didn’t develop in elementary and middle school classrooms dominated by calculator use. I appreciate the emphasis on logic and collaborative activities. I tell my students who complain that they don’t need math to treat the class as a mental discipline - a way of learning how to think clearly and explain precisely. The Standards for Mathematical Practice are a good tool for explicating this attitude and lending it a certain amount of weight. (See, kids - it’s not just your wacky teacher who thinks this.) The exercises in this book were clearly written with that approach to the study of mathematics in mind. Exercises hinge on logical interpretation of data and frequently ask students to understand and critique their classmates work. The first lesson in the book in an outstanding example of this approach. Students create number puzzles for their classmates. The challenge is to figure out where to place the mathematical operators in order to produce a certain answer. Not only is the activity cerebral and collaborative, but the directions to have students to use notecards to arrange and rearrange numbers and operators would be a boon to “twitchy” students who need something to engage their hands during class. Another near perfect lesson (3.1) has students measure the flight of paper airplanes using different fractions of a meter and then compare the distances achieved. If that isn’t putting the competitive nature of kids to work - I don’t know what is. Not all of the lessons in this collection achieve the high standards of the ones above. The directions for the instructor are vague. I was attracted to an exercise that had students create an alternative to the Arabic numeral system in order to explore the meaning of place value (2.1). However, I couldn’t figure out if students were supposed to be translating back and forth between their representations and the conventional Arabic system or how one student was supposed to “decode” another student’s system of symbols.The problem of vagueness extends to the construction of the questions. Some exercises that attempt a “real-world connection” lack sufficient detail to be engaging - in fact, the lack of detail makes the exercise confusing. For example, one lesson asks students to graph outcomes from an undescribed “number game” to explore functions (1.2). The problem includes a scenario about students occupying themselves during an unexpected snow day, but gives no information about the game. Students can still do the work the lesson asks - observing trends and writing function rules, but I was distracted by nagging questions. What are the rules of this number game? Which boy is winning - the one with higher points or lower points? Students - especially gifted students - are likely to share in this distractions.While the flaws in some lessons detract from the overall quality, overall, this book has quite a few good lessons and activities. I look forward to testing out a few in some of my secondary classes, and based on my memories of being gifted and bored in late elementary and middle school, I think the material here is on target for that sub-group.

Some problems were easier than I expected for a gifted 5th grader but others were either right on track or a little more difficult. I liked that it helped me as a parent understand a bit more about the common core way of doing math.​

About the Author Tracey was born in South Wales and now lives in Gloucestershire with her husband, two daughters and a menagerie of animals. She is a trained teacher and used to run specialist literacy program in schools before becoming a full-time writer. Alison Edgson was born in County Down in Northern Ireland. When she's not illustrating children's books, Alison spends most of her free time chasing her chickens out of the vegetable garden and brushing the cat, and loves walking her dogs in the countryside.

By Sunshine on a Rainy Day SUMMARY: In this sequel to I Want My Mommy, Arthur is spending the day at home with his dad. Arthur tries to build a castle by himself, but things are not working out well. He calls for his dad who comes and shows Arthur how to build a castle that will be strong enough to play in. Arthur plays by himself for a little while until he falls and calls for his dad. Dad comes and tells him it's okay. The two then go to the park and play together on the play castle at the playground. When they return home, Arthur makes a crown for his dad because "Every knight needed a king for his castle." He presents his crown and gets a tight hug in return.ILLUSTRATIONS: The illustrations are big, soft and colorful making them perfect for the youngest viewers. Arthur's cuteness factor is a 10 out of 10!REVIEW: After reading I Want My Mommy, I was so excited when this second book finally came out. I may have even liked it a bit more than the first book. I can't decide! I loved watching the close relationship between father and son. Arthur's dad, instead of putting him down for his failures, lifts him up and shows him ways to be successful. Arthur's dad takes time to play with him, but also spends time getting his own work done. I love the part in the beginning where they say, "Knights together?" "Knights forever!" and at the end where they say, "Hugs together?" "Hugs forever!" This is a wonderful warm and fuzzy story for dad and son to read together.AGE RECOMMENDATION: Age 3-6 Highly recommend!

It's hard when you're small though, and sometimes only a grown-up's help will do. When things are not going Arthur's way, he calls in the big guns: Daddy! His castle is repaired, a trip to the playground becomes and adventure and some hugs are the nest medicine. Arthur discovers that the real heroes are the ones who are there every day, not just the ones in fairy tales.Using the beautiful illustrations of Alison Edgson, Tracey Corderoy brings the world of Arthur, the tiny mouse, to life in this fantastic picture book. The colours and detail in the drawings are exquisite and while I did not have a pre-schooler to read this to, my older schoolkids got a real kick out of it. There were plenty of oohs and aaaghs while they truned the page and they adored reading about Arthur's day. The story is nice and simple and shows kids that Daddys can be around for fun times as well as Mammys. The idea that Arthur looks to his father in times of need is a sweet concept and their hugs are guaranteed to make kids hug their parents nice and tightly when reading along with this charming book.Sure to be a firm favourite at bedtime, and inspire some great castle-building in many gardens!Ideal for ages 1-4.
