Gives Parents a Guide to Help their Teens with today's High Tech Crisis By Todd Basche Some books speak to you as if the author is right next to you, telling you the story. Joani Geltman’s A Survival Guide to Parenting Teens, provides the reader with genuine, intelligent, useful information presented in such an accessible format it’s like having Joani with you, coaching you along. And while the author’s style is warm, smart and humorous, she also understands the critical nature of todays’ issues facing both parents and teens, and she takes it all seriously while explaining what kids are actually experiencing that may drive them to make dangerous choices, and what you as a parent can actually do to protect your teen. She offers parents the actual words yto use with kids,, a “script” of sorts, from the heart. This book is a gem, a must read for today’s parents who are faced with critical issues no one could have predicted for this century..

Straight, common-sense talk about discipline By BostonWriter I've never been one to read parenting how-to books (mothering a large family has been more about on-the-job training). But when I heard Joani Geltman speak at my local bookstore, I knew this would be the exception. Practical, no-nonsense, funny and wise, she's like the friend you wish you could meet for coffee every week. Her short entries about 70+ hot button areas of parenting teens (especially including smartphones) are easily digestible, and felt to me like a comforting second opinion on my gut feeling. I keep it on the nightstand. And I don't mind if the kids see it.

Such a valuable book even though my kids are still in elementary school By Lisa Mom of 2 While my kids are a few years away from the teen years, I want to know about what issues parents are facing with their teenagers now, considering how much things have changed since I was a teen in the 90's.Seriously - Facebook, smartphones, and even digital cameras didn't exist when I was a teen. Sheesh, I remember when CDs, caller ID, and giant cell phones first came out! I didn't even use the Internet until I was in college.Back then it was harder to share the daily details of your life with anyone else but those closest to you. But so much is different now, though of course, many of the core issues remain (drugs, sex, money) but in new ways.A Survival Guide to Parenting Teens: Talking to Your Kids About Sexting, Drinking, Drugs, and Other Things That Freak You Out is a valuable guidebook filled with humor and advice that all parents should read, regardless of how old their kids are. It's organized into 10 sections and covers 80 topics from smartphones to new social media sites to teens talking back to "the bad seed friend" and so much more. This is an ideal guidebook for busy parents (who isn't?) as each chapter is cleverly titled by the issue, so it's not a book that needs to be read cover-to-cover...it can be easily opened up to whatever issue you're facing! And I love how simply she organizes each chapter: First she breaks down each issue by starting with "Here's the Problem," then "Why It's a Problem" (to help you understand what's going on), and ending with "Here's the Solution."As a mom I have found this book amazingly eye-opening and helpful to prepare for that stage in our lives. Like chapter 63: "Icky New Social Networking Sites...Beware!" Did you know about websites like Omegle, com, Chatroulette, com, or Ask.fm? Imagine your teen talking (& possibly more) via their computer with complete strangers or anonymously criticizing or bullying someone. It's amazing what teen-targeting sites exist out there!I recommend A Survival Guide to Parenting Teens as it's full of so much down-to-earth advice for all parents, and is so informative for parents with pre-teens to help them better prepare for and understand their child's development.

Many people are suffering from OCPD, and it is negatively affecting their marriage, their relationships, their children and their lives. Obsessive Compulsive Personality disorder is a condition of negative perfectionism. It is a desire and a need for orderliness, control, strict guidelines, and clear procedures. OCPD generally is handed down through the family and is held to be a family value which provides stability and survival. However, the obsessiveness and compulsiveness that is characteristic of OCPD can cause great strain in relationships and reduce the quality of life for the sufferer.

In this book, I seek to challenge the core negative personality traits and needs of the OCPD sufferer. I challenge them to turn off their autopilot and try to look at the world through a different lens. I realize that it is quite difficult for a person with OCPD to challenge their own thoughts and the thoughts of their family members in order to search for greater freedom. I wish for them to slowly release their need to control and perfect everything in their life, to take a step back and to breathe.

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Well-Thought Out 7-Day Progression to Address Multiple Aspects of OCPD and Detrimental Ultra-Perfectionism By a friend of Jesus Ms. J.B. Snow has a real talent for presenting helpful guidance and sound recommendations in easily manageable (mentally digestible) length regarding the overcoming of OCPD and/or ultra-perfectionistic tendencies. In this ebook, Ms. Snow sets forth a different challenge per day over a seven day period to counter any long-ingrained thoughts or actions which undermine healthy relations of every type. Her central idea is that of MINDFULNESS, wherein an OCPD person sets their Intention at the start of each day to deliberately observe their own thoughts and actions, and to alter those thoughts and actions as increased awareness of the consequences of their actions would naturally dictate. She appropriately refers to this procedure as ‘turning off auto pilot’, setting the stage for a fully-conscious, choice-empowered life, wherein the OCPD person acquires the ability, through practice, to do, say, and act differently (more beneficially, to all parties involved) depending upon the needs of the moment. Ms. Snow makes it clear that adopting this 7-day challenge will require considerable effort, but the outcome will be more than worth it. She is a great encourager to try the initially uncomfortable, but life-freeing exercises, because she shares her own personal familiarity and struggle with and overcoming of OCPD tendencies, herself. A helpful little digest, to be sure. Thank you, Ms. Snow, for sharing such valuable knowledge you have gleaned through direct experience. Sincerely, Mack W. Ethridge, President, New Frontier Health Research, Inc., and author of The One Master Guide to OCPD Deliverance, available at Amazon.com.

Threaded with rhythmic words paired with beautiful illustrations, encourages any child or adult to use their imagination. As the farm goes to sleep so does the little girl in the farm house. We read a lot of children's books and this is one for the whole family.

We found it by chance at the doctor's office, and she immediately loved it, which is unusual for her. I enjoy the lyrical writing and she loves the rich illustrations (especially finding the tractor on each page). Highly, highly recommended.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful and Poignant By K. Hudecek Clover House is women's fiction, or as I call it, "Chick Lit" with a splash of romance. But that doesn't mean that just women will enjoy it.This is probably one of the hardest book reviews I've ever written. One wrong word and the whole book is totaled. Please bear with me.It's a beautiful story set in Leeds, England at a place called, Clover House. Leo has been a resident there for quite some time and when new people come, he's sort of the ambassador. He shows them around, befriends them, and tries to make their transition easier. He's friendly, outgoing, and everyone seems to like him, except for one bully, who will not be named in this review. The bully is an antagonist but a minor character.Julie is new to Clover House, and like all other new patrons, is paired with Leo. She's young and pretty and he takes a liking to her right away. Soon, they become more than friends and the two of them embark on endeavor to fulfill Julie's dreams. The book is long but I was so drawn into the story, I never wanted it to end. I loved Leo and Julie; the story was well-thought out; and the plot was solid and a filled with emotion. The ending was a huge surprise. I can't say anymore than that. Suffice it to say, I was blindsided.I would advise the readers of this book to be patient. There are reasons why key elements are left out of the characters. It all comes together and your questions will be answered.Oh, and watch out for that poem. It had me crying like a baby. I've read it over and over and still can't get enough of it. Ironically, I'm not a huge fan of poetry. I've always said, anything can make you laugh but it takes something special to make you cry.I received an advance copy of this book in return for an honest review. As long as the minor errors were corrected, this book is an easy 5-stars. I can also see a movie deal for it should it get into the right hands.

By TLC I LOVED this book....really connected with the characters and the story ...Brook is in college now ...trying to start new...freshshe meets Drew one night at a tattoo parlor ...he's a big football man on campus... ~~A new me, for a new place.~~ But this is NOT your average "college-read"....Drew and Brook don't exactly see eye to eye at first ...Drew has a lot to learn ..about relationships and he's about to get schooled ...I adored Brook ...she's direct and thoughtful and a breath of fresh air ...I loved that Drew isn't Mr. Perfect ...he really doesn't know jack about being in a committed relationship with anyone ... ~~"Baby, we are going to happen. There's no question about that. I want you, and I know you want me, your body didn't lie."~~ Ok they do want each other ...but to begin with ..Drew only wants one thing and Brook has standards... it was refreshing how she was with him...she wasn't "playing" with him ...she was just being her ..they learned from each other and brought out the best in one another ...this book went places I wasn't expecting ...towards the end ...don't worry though ...spoiler ~>>> it is an HEA ...and frankly I'd like more please...Highly Recommended Read!!!!!!!

There was literally only one good thing about this book, and that's the writing. I will happily admit that Ashley Claudy is a good writer and is able to write in such a seamless way that everything kinda flowed. There were no awkward moments of whatnot. But damn, the story was just so over the top. Brook is totally naive to the point that it was irritating. Andrew acted like he was the best thing in the world and that the universe should bow down before him. Luke, I seriously don't even get this guy. Rose was a big b*tch from start to finish and I don't get why on earth Brook put up with that. Yeah, I get you're a nice innocent the-glass-is-half-full kinda girl, but seriously Brook, stand up for yourself. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, was completely whack in this book. It was sooo over the top. Like soap-opera over the top.I don't even know what else to say about this. But yeah...not my cup of tea. Or coffee.

In the beginning, Drew was a tough pill to swallow. I didn’t fall in love with him, but I liked him at the end. I loved that he was honest and did not beat around the bush, but at the same time, I did not fully like him (very very rare for me not to fully love the H). There was just something about him that turned me off; maybe it was how forceful he was with Brooke in the beginning or how cold he was throughout the book.Brooke – was just a breath of fresh air. It’s refreshing to read about a female lead who is not an idiot, who stands her ground, and does not let her past control her life. Brooke was sweet (too sweet at times) and always made sure to see a person in a positive light. I understand why she was the way she was due to her past, but again she didn’t let that rule her life. I had so much respect for her for standing her ground with Drew. She made him wait and was honest with what she wanted from him. She took the time to hear a person out and not jump to conclusions. I do wish that she was a little more mean, though. The storyline was great until towards the end, which was a head scratcher. I literally went ummmmm…. WHAT JUST HAPPENED! It didn’t flow with the story and London and Coach Kelley made no sense and TJ and Scott became two completely different characters at the end. I had my suspicions about Scott wanting more from Brooke, but his connection with London and Coach was unclear. I am still confused about TJ character. He was the typical college student then he had a secret, which was interesting, but then it went downhill from there. Rose, was an idiot through and through. She was likeable in the beginning, then became annoying in the middle of the book, and then unlikeable at the end. Tatum, I knew she would be a problem and I understood why Drew acted the way he did with her. I respected him for trying to be cordial with Tatum but her character was fake from the beginning. I am still confused about her character because Drew indicated that she had “problems” but it was never known what her problem was. I thought she was bipolar of something. Again, I felt like I was reading about different characters from start to finish.Overall, I enjoyed the book. Drew and Brooke was a perfect combo – he was too mean and she was too nice and they even eachother out. I would like more from them and to get a closure to their HEA. ….. hint hint.

Return of the millionaire's wife…

Brooke Adamson knew how devilishly handsome magnate, Rafe Charlwood felt about her. She was his wife after all—or rather she had been, until a terrible car accident three years ago, which Rafe still believed had claimed her life.

Now she's returned, with a new face and identity, to claim her son. But even though she despises Rafe—almost as much as he hates the memory of the woman he married—resisting his sinful touch and devastating kiss proves more difficult than Brooke ever anticipated…

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. What a powerful story! This one earns five stars all the way! By KayLovesToRead A Lost Love by Carole MortimerHarlequin Presents #740 ~ Nov 1984After a short 18 months, Jacqui Charlwood found herself in a loveless marriage with a husband who seemed to hate her. Her sister-in-law told her Rafe only married her for the child she gave him, so in rebellion she defied her husband and went to London to attend a party with her friends from before the marriage. When Rafe turned up at the party she flirted with her old boss, not thinking that Rafe would assume the worst. Returning to their home she discovered herself locked out at the main gate and refused entry. When she called Rafe refused to speak to her claiming all discussions would take place through the lawyers. And so young Jacqui lost not only her marriage (though she was given a very generous settlement) she also lost custody of her six month old son. She'd fought hard for her son, but Rafe had all the tricks and power behind him to see she was declared an unfit mother. And though the courts awarded her visitation, Rafe refused to allow it. Left with no life, she decided to travel to America with her friends to hopefully begin again. Only once there she'd been in a horrible car crash. Rafe had sent his Aunt Jocelyn to America to identify her body, but once there she found Jacqui barely alive with a body badly broken and a face unrecognizable. Jacqui pleaded with Jocelyn to allow her to remain "dead" and then had the surgeons create a new woman. And so Brooke Adamson was created and once her body and spirit was healed she returned to England as Jocelyn's dear friend, often visiting with her at her cottage and playing with Jocelyn's great nephew, Robert. Upon Jocelyn's death, Brooke inherits her cottage on the Charlwood estate, ensuring that Brooke will always be close to her son. When Rafe tries to get close to her, Brooke continually pushes him away for fear that he'll discover her secret.Oh wow! What a powerful story! Brooke has always felt like the one who had been wronged, but as she spends time with Rafe she slowly sees that there was more going on in her marriage than she had seen. She'd been very young, and hadn't known how to stand up for herself when Rafe had taken complete control of her life. As in most early Presents, we are not given the heroes POV, but Ms. Mortimer shows us deftly how very much Rafe has suffered. This story allows both Brooke and Rafe to come to terms with all that had happened to make their marriage fail. I loved the ending when Brooke's identity is revealed. Such a powerful love story! This one earns five stars all the way!

Months later she had been in a car accident and required plastic surgery and she had asked the doctors to give her a new face. So armed with a new face and the name Brooke she has moved near to her family determined to see her son and win back her husband. In the beginning you hate her husband but learn that things aren't always what they seem. A good read.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. good memory By Sherry Riley This is a good story. It makes me misty every time I read it, especially when Brooke discovers that Rafe knows that she is really his wife, Jacqui, that he had thought been killed in a car accident 2 years earlier.
