All those who are put in same situation know how much can this problem influence one’s physical and mental condition. One does not like himself in the mirror and feels humiliated while confronted by other thin people. I tried a few different programs to achieve fat loss which worked for me only partially. I went through the book and will definitely apply tips mentioned inside. The most revealing was for me 3rd chapter of the book about unconventional tips and tricks of weight loss. Points which the author established in the book are accurate and relevant

By Amanda Frey I feel like I dictated this book to the the author because it includes everything I would put in a book like this!!! It has the foods to eat and why they should be eaten; nutritional values; recipes and menus. The only other piece of information I would have liked to be included is why one cannot eat grapefruit if taking antidepressants. So buy with confidence and enjoy. If you are like me, you won't mind missing all the bad food you should avoid.

By Yvonne There are so much health and diet books out there and it's kinda frustrating enough that most of them won't work for you, but this book is exactly the opposite of it. Comprehensive, easy to do and so many important tips that I haven't read from other diet books. This book is really worth the money, time and effort. I'm simply happy that the book is really helpful.

This book is a collection of my writings made on my Facebook page. It is a collection of my honest reflections as I journey from day to day. I chose to name this volume, “A Spoonful for the Journey,” as I believe that in life we all need a little bit more of something to take us to where we are going. That spoonful for some may be inspiration, motivation, or confrontation. For others, it is reflection, revival or restoration. For others, it is a rebuke, reproof or a strong reminder. Whatever it is that you need, I believe that these reflections will offer each of you something special on your journey. So come journey with me!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Read it Now! By Leah At their older sister Chelsea's flash fortieth birthday party, twin sisters Annie and Lauren wonder how their life has paled in comparison to their sisters. Why is it that Chelsea has a fantastic husband who caters to her every whim whereas Annie's husband spends most of his time fishing and Lauren's lover is married with two kids? There and then Annie and Lauren make a vow: this year everything will be different and they will follow their dreams. Annie's dream is to walk the Inca trail in Peru whereas Lauren wants lover Jude to finally leave his wife for her. Can the sisters make their dreams come true or is it too little, too late? It's Now Or Never is kind of similar to Carole's last release That Loving Feeling. Annie and Greg's (from It's Now or Never) were very similar to Juliet and Rick (from That Loving Feeling): their marriage seems to be falling apart at their ears, their children don't respect them at all. The two marriages really were eerily similar and it was like I was reading about Rick and Juliet again (which wasn't a bad thing - I adored Rick and Juliet). Furthermore since the marriages were similar I found Annie and Greg just as likable.Lauren, Annie's twin sister, was a fantastic character. I looked forward to her all the chapters told from her perspective. Her storyline was a bit tired and something that appears in every single book I seem to be reading at the moment but for me, I enjoyed it. I can't say I was a fan of Lauren being a mistress but she seemed incredibly sweet, if a little naive. As her lover Jude keeps letting her down, I thought it was fantastic that her friend Zak was there to help prop her up. I knew early on how Lauren's storyline would end (it's kind of hinted at really early on) but for me the question wasn't if Lauren would ever figure out things about Jude and Zak but when it would happen. When I first read the synopsis on Amazon I thought Chelsea, the twins' older sister, may have been in the book a bit more - even have some chapters about her life - but she rarely makes appearances which was a bit disappointing. It seemed that Chelsea was going through some difficult times which weren't properly resolved by the end of the book which was also disappointing. A lot is made about how different Chelsea's life is compared to Annie and Lauren so it wouldn't have added an interesting perspective to see how Chelsea's life was seemingly falling apart around her ears.Carole's writing is, as always, fantastic. I find it very easy to get into her books and could read Carole all day long. I thoroughly enjoyed reading It's Now or Never and apart from a few quibbles I did find it an absorbing read. There are a few chapters on fishing as Greg enjoys fishing and I thought I would have found those chapters boring but I didn't, at all. I found them quite interesting - which really surprised me, I never had myself down for wanting to learn about fish. Some people may find them a bit dull but they really gave us insight into Greg's mind, which was very clever. It's Now or Never is a must-read and I hugely enjoyed reading the book. Right - when's the next Carole Matthews book out?...

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I liked it By Author Dori Lavelle Have you ever reached the do or die point in your life? Where something has to change or you'll go crazy?Well, in a nutshell, that's what this novel is about.Annie is stuck in a marriage with two kids, whose only idea of fun is racing from one party to the next and getting drunk, and a husband who is content as long as he has a fishing rod in his hand.Annie's twin, Lauren wants what Annie has. A husband (minus the fishing rod). There's only one small problem. Correction, one big problem. The man she wants, her boyfriend of several years, has already met another woman's 'husbandy' needs. If you ever need that extra push toward your dreams, this book could be for you. It made me laugh, encouraged me to never stop reaching for the skies, and made me want to pack my bags and leave for Peru.I'll say no more.Liz Grace Davis (Author of Chocolate Aftertaste and Tangi's Teardrops)

In a sequel to her bestselling When Sophie Gets Angry..., Caldecott Honor Illustrator Molly Bang asks: What hurts your feelings, and what do you do about it?Everyone's feelings get hurt, and it's especially painful in childhood. In this story, Bang's popular character Sophie is hurt when the other children laugh at her and tell her she's wrong. Sophie's face gets hot, and tears begin to flow. Then she questions herself and the value of the choices she's made.At issue is Sophie's colorful, expressive painting of her favorite tree. Sophie loves it, but her picture is different from the paintings done by the other students. "The sky isn't orange! Trees aren't blue! Your picture is wrong!" they tell her.In addition to the book's subtle art lesson (imagine the skies of Vincent van Gogh, for example), readers have the opportunity to compare and contrast all the paintings done in Sophie's class. In the end, the students learn there are many different ways to interpret the world -- and each other. Here is a simple story that tackles the common issue of hurt feelings as it gently helps us to be more kind.

When Sophie's Feelings Are Really, Really Hurt, by Molly Bang

From School Library Journal K-Gr 3—Sophie is back, and so is the beech tree to which she retreats in the Caldecott Honor book When Sophie Gets Angry—Really, Really Angry (Scholastic, 1999). This time her teacher asks the class to "find a tree you like a LOT. Look at it carefully…. Tomorrow you're going to paint that tree from memory." As she studies her tree, Sophie notes its thick base, how it thins as it reaches skyward and how the branches curve. She even notices how the sun makes the leaves glow. At school, the young artist wants to convey how happy and alive the tree makes her feel, so she paints it a vibrant turquoise with chartreuse leaves against an orange sky. "She paints yellow all around it, as if it's shining. She fills her shining tree with animals she has seen in the woods." Sadly, her pride and satisfaction are short-lived; "We're supposed to paint a REAL tree, Sophie. You did it WRONG!" Her classmates' whispers and laughter bring tears of hurt and embarrassment. "She wants to JUST NOT BE THERE…. She hates her picture." With gentle questions her wise teacher helps the children understand that "Sophie looked very carefully and painted what she saw…and she used color to show her feelings." Ms. Mulry is able to diffuse the situation without making accusations or taking sides, so that the children appreciate and respect one another's work. Bang has chosen a common school scenario and sees it through to a satisfying resolution. Her signature chunky, full-spread paintings celebrate color, creativity, and diversity. The hand-printed text complements the childlike art. VERDICT All libraries will want this bold offering for lessons on classroom manners, art, and individuality.—Barbara Auerbach, New York City Public Schools

Review * "Bang's thickly painted images exude energy and feeling, both in the children's expressions and through the exaggerated dimensions, angles, and colors. It's another lovely study in emotion from Bang and a thoughtful exploration of art-making." -- Publishers Weekly, starred reviewPraise for When Sophie Gets Angry--Really, Really Angry... Caldecott Honor Book Jane Addams Honor Book ALA Notable Book Charlotte Zolotow Award "Bang's evocatively illustrated book suggests no quick fixes; she treats childhood emotions with respect." -- Publishers Weekly "Bang captures the intensity of Sophie's feelings with strong, broadly brushed forms and colors....Sophie finds a way to cope with her anger, quite laudably, without a helping adult hand." -- Kirkus Reviews * "Bang's double-page illustrations, vibrating with saturated colors...reveal the drama of the child's emotions." -- School Library Journal, starred review "An elegant and thought-provoking book for...children learning how to deal with emotions." -- New York Times Book Review

I use these books when working with kids on how to deal with their emotions. Beautiful artwork and story to go along with it. I hope she does more Sophie books in the future!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Blast from the past, and just as good! By Dione Basseri I was actually quite surprised to see this book! I read the original Sophie book back in 2004, and even then it was five years old! It's been seventeen years since publication, and now we get a sequel! Goodness, Sophie should be old enough to drink, by now!Of course, she's still a kid, here. No worries, parents! We elarn again about how to handle negative emotions, and again use Sophie's tree for this lesson. Sophie's class is told to draw a tree, but Sophie's first try doesn't look right. So she draws how it makes her FEEL, but that brings ridicule from the class. Luckily, her teacher understand what Sophie is trying to do, and she teaches the class not only about artistic expression, but also about being unique, how to not hurt feelings, and how to forgive. That woman deserves a raise. It's a pretty satisfying sequel! I don't see it winning any awards for artwork, simply because it's a repeat of the original book, but this could certainly get some recommendations from child development workers looking to help kids express themselves and work through conflict.

When Sophie paints her favorite tree, the tree looks sad being gray. So, she paints it a vibrant blue and paints animals on its branches. Now the tree looks happy! But another classmate makes fun of her tree and says trees aren't blue. Sophie feels tears on her cheeks. But Sophie's teacher comes to the rescue and LOVES Sophie's tree. Good to have an understanding and supportive teacher! The class looks at all of the trees painted by classmates and realize that every tree is different, and that's positive. It's not good to make fun of other people's work. This book will help children to realize there isn't a wrong way to do art, and they should enjoy expressing themselves. Love all the vivid colors. This would be an excellent book to read to a class to promote acceptance of individuality, and encourage creativity. Bravo!

Caldecott Medalist, Allen Say, presents a companion to his award-wining Drawing from Memory - the story of his coming-of-age at a military academy and the discovery of what it means to be American For Allen Say, life as teen in Southern California was a cold existence. His father, one of the leading hamburger salesmen in Japan, ran a booming burger business, much like McDonald's, and sent Allen to an American military academy, so that his son could learn English and "become a success in life." As the school's first and only Japanese student, he experienced immediate racism among his fellow cadets and his teachers. The other kids' parents complained about Allen's presence at the all-white school. As a result, he was relegated to a tool shed behind the mess hall. Determined to free himself from this oppression, Allen saved enough money to buy a 1946 Ford for $50 - then escaped to find the America of his dreams! In this follow-up to Drawing from Memory, Allen continues to reinvent himself as an author and illustrator. Melding his paintings with cartoon images and archival photos, Allen Say delivers an accessible book that will appeal to any reader in search of himself.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Brilliant! Fascinating and inspiring By Nicola Mansfield Brilliant! Fascinating and inspiring! Allan Say presents in a long picture book format his memoir of the first three years he spent in America those being his high school years where he studied art. Left to fend for himself by a neglectful father 15-year-old Say lives on his own, works part-time and his talent is eventually "discovered" by a teacher or two leading to special opportunities and scholarships. The book ends with his graduation. It's also an interesting look at 1950s California, life for a Japanese youth in America just after the war, and about perseverance to make your dreams come true. Gorgeously illustrated throughout in various styles to reflect the content of the story, this is a book that will hold the interest of readers of all ages, especially other artists.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Boy Who Just Wanted To Draw By Zachary Koenig All Allan Say ever wanted to do was draw cartoons. Because of his nationality (Japanese) and the times in which he lived (post-WWII), however, Allan had to overcome some serious obstacles in pursuit of that dream. “The Inker’s Shadow” is a graphic novel that tells the story of a young Say and how he persevered in spite of the many twists and turns his life took as a young man.For a basic plot summary, this graphic novel begins with Say’s father (a wealthy business man) sending him to an American military school for his education. In the often anti-Japanese post-WWII climate, however, Allan is mocked and relegated to tasks and a lifestyle that he does not enjoy. Inspired by his comic book alter-ego from his cartoon-ing days in Japan, Allan decides to leave the military institution and strike out on his own. He ends up in California, where (through his own drive and the kindness of others) he enrolls in more schooling and finds some mentors in the comic/art business. The story of Allan Say is one that epitomizes the phrase “the truth is stranger than fiction”. A Hollywood script-writer could not craft a tale with as many twist and turns, or as much inspirational material, as that of Say. Whether you are a child reading the book or an adult, those themes are obvious and shine through on every page. Multiple times in his life, Say had no one to lean on and not more than a few dollars in his pocket, yet he still managed to become a renowned illustrator and novelist. Thus, the primary reason this graphic novel succeeds is that it tells such an engaging, important tale. The art in the novel is also very interesting and well-done. I’m no artist by a long shot, so I can’t give any critiques on the forms used, but I will say that I liked how many different styles were used to represent Say’s journey. Some are full color, others are black-and-white sketches, while still others are in full cartoon-strip form. Even some charcoal-looking drawings are used. What this does is make every page a visual treat, as there is definitely no “getting bored” while paging through this graphic novel. Each time you flip to the next page, some new layout is waiting for you!Overall, I enjoyed both the visual experience and the message behind “Inker’s Shadow”. The graphic format will likely guide it towards school libraries or public library YA sections, where it should succeed equally. Even adults who pick up the book, though, can appreciate both the artwork and the inspirational themes behind its main subject Allen Say.

By Nathan Must read of all invested in education on where we are and where we need to go. It won't happen over night, and the changes aren't going to be easy, but Richardson give examples of where meaningful change is happening in different contexts. This book reminded me why I want to lead in K-12 education. Looking forward to reading the others in this series!

Graduate School and Beyond: Earning and Using Your Advanced Degree, by Mark H. Rossman

Review Mark Rossman has been a rigorous guide and friend to generations of students. His biases come through loud and clear the most successful students own their education. They seek to shape their educational experiences to their own unique needs, rather than passively accept whatever is thrown their way. This guide to graduate study is both practical and very thorough. It will take the mystery out of the process. Mark shares with his readers the importance of parsing the tasks, breaking them down into component parts, each to be dealt with in its own time. You don't have to read it cover to cover just the well-labeled ideas that apply to you. My favorite: Becoming a Self-Directed Learner. --Dwight Allen, Eminent Scholar of Educational Reform, Emeritus, Old Dominion University and former Dean of the School of Education, University of Massachusetts, AmherstKnowledge is power. In this book, Dr. Rossman fully discusses and explains all aspects of the graduate school process, including the program of study, finances, delivery systems online and on campus the committee process, comps, the proposal and how it is connected to the thesis/dissertation. With this clear and succinct information, the graduate student is in a much better position to develop an advanced degree program that will fully and adequately meet personal and professional goals and objectives. --Craig Swenson, Chancellor, Argosy University SystemAmong the uncertainties of life that young people face these days, perhaps none is so complex or so crucial as the decision to earn a graduate degree. Aside from the increase in earning power that an advanced degree affords, prospective graduate students must confront a daunting array of tasks and obstacles to success. Issues of which program to choose and how to pay for it are coupled with questions about how graduate school works and how to be successful once the decision to begin has been made. Not surprisingly, prospective graduate students both need and want a clear and comprehensive guide to graduate school and in Mark Rossman's book, they have it. Built upon his forty-plus years of experience as faculty, administrator, and graduate student advisor, Dr. Rossman's new book amplifies and extends his earlier work, the nationally recognized and applauded Negotiating Graduate School, and brings to graduate students a compelling and re-assuring vision of the path to their degree. As a long-time colleague at two universities and as former president of an innovative online graduate institution, I am proud to endorse Graduate School and Beyond and to recommend it to every prospective graduate student. --J. Bruce Francis, Distinguished Senior Faculty, Capella University

About the Author Mark H. Rossman is Professor Emeritus at Capella University where he has also served as Senior Faculty, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Associate Vice President for Residencies. He has chaired more than 180 Doctoral dissertations and master s theses and served on more than 400 graduate committees.

And the advice for more traditional schooling was focused on setting realistic goals and balancing workload - all of the generic stuff you can find online. I was looking for something about how to find conferences to present at and attach yourself to research projects, get published, etc. Only but this if you really feel like you're starting with no idea of what you want from grad school or how to go about getting it.
