By Laurel I have the other two National Geographic mythology books by Donna Jo Napoli, and I had pre-ordered this book and was looking forward to getting it. I like the telling of the myths and the illustrations are vibrant and expressive. What I don't like it how the author judges each of the myths. She doesn't just tell the stories, many of them have little comments from her about how the Aesir are cowardly, or whatever. She clearly has a lot of disdain for this whole collection of tales, I wonder why she even agreed to write this book! I would prefer if she just stuck to the stories and let us draw our own conclusions.

She disparages many of the gods and aspects of the Norse story-telling tradition. The simple fact is: if you appreciate and respect Norse culture and the gods, then find another illustrated collection of the myths. I wanted to repeat what others have said because I personally read the reviews, bought the book anyway, and now wish I had believed them.
