From Booklist When the dust cleared from Marvel’s Avengers vs. X-Men (2012) event, the best thing left standing was this dandy new title, which combines members of both teams to stand against bigotry and hatred. And there’s plenty of that, when Nazi anachronism the Red Skull comes calling, armed with telepathic powers harvested from the brain of the deceased Charles Xavier. Remender, currently giving Captain America an injection of sf energy, serves up a feast: dense, intelligent writing that asks significant questions; a battle not only of arms but of ideologies; and a cast of characters that gives movie stars like Captain America, Thor, and Wolverine their due without ignoring the rich personalities of lesser-known players. He couldn’t have better support than Cassaday’s art, the most purely gorgeous in contemporary superhero comics, so clean and clear the pages practically glow with life. Cassaday inserts action expertly to give the story maximum drama and, in between, has such mastery of body language and expression that the characters are as compelling as those on a movie screen. --Jesse Karp

Avengers/X-men unity squad By Ian In the aftermath of Avengers vs. X-men, Captain America has decided it's time to take a more active role in human/mutant relations. His idea is to form a team of Avengers and X-men that will work to realize Charles Xavier's dream. The team consists of Captain America, Thor, Scarlet Witch, Wolverine, Rogue and Havok as the team leader. Standing in their way is The Red Skull and his S-men. Rick Remender does a fantastic job here of making the Red Skull a truly evil and despicable villain. I won't reveal what he does, but it's pretty horrific. The Skull is now poised to be one of the best villains in the Marvel Universe. Another great thing this series does is add Scarlet Witch back into the fold. There is a lot of tension here between her and Rogue, which is understandable since the Scarlet Witch caused many problems for the mutant population by almost making them extinct. Rick Remender does a superb job here, and I'm excited to hear that he will be continuing some of the plot threads he introduced in Uncanny X-Force (which was fantastic) here in this title. On art duties, we have stellar work from John Cassady on issues 1-4, and Olivier Coipel on issue 5. I highly recommend giving this series a try if you want the best of both worlds (Avengers and X-men). The storytelling is enough to make this one of the best new titles to come out of the Marvel Now! initiative

Nelson I followed author Rick Remender over from his excellent work on the Uncanny X-Force, he puts the heroes in compelling situations and makes decades of absurd comic continuity fascinating. The Uncanny Avengers Vol 1 is the kick off in a newly crafted super hero team that features both Avengers and X-Men. After events in the Avengers vs X-men story arc Captain America feels guilty that he and his allies did not do enough to fight against anti mutant sentiment. To rectify that he wanted to show Avengers working alongside mutants.Team members include: Wolverine, Havok, Rogue, Captain America, Thor, and Scarlet Witch. The book follows the heroes as they form the team and have a run in with the Red Skull. The primary purpose of these stories is to show the teams growing pains and set up a future significant storyline.I am excited to follow this series.

Wells Collecting: Uncanny Avengers (2015) #1-5Counter Evolutionary collects the entire run of the second Uncanny Avengers series. This book picks up in the aftermath of Avengers & X-Men: Axis . After the stunning revelation that Magneto is not their father, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch travel to the High Evolutionary's planet to confront him about their origin. Rogue attempts to piece together a new Unity Squad with Vision, Dr Voodoo, Falcon, and a newly good guy Sabretooth to back them up. Voodoo's spell goes awry, and the Avengers are scattered across High Evolutionary's world.Writer Rick Remender has earned a his reputation as a masterful storyteller. The pacing and plot work well as Remender weaves the scatter team's individual plot lines together to meet for a grand finale. The High Evolutionary makes a maniacal enemy for our heroes, and Remender uses the High Evolutionary's particular brand of crazy to sound some rather profound thoughts on the nature of perfection and the virtues of flaws. Finally, Sabretooth as a living, thinking character (rather than simply Wolverine's nemesis) has a lot of potential to develop Sabreooth into a sympathetic character. I am enjoying watching his transition from supervillain to superhero.Readers who've followed the Uncanny Avengers will want to pick this volume up because it details critical changes in Wonder Man and Rogue's situation. Longtime Avengers fans will also enjoy the moments that The Vision and Wanda share. The conclusion of this volume points readers towards Secret Wars in order to follow these characters' adventures.
