A Wonderful, Modern Guide for Today's Jewish Family By Hannah Trager Reading this book is like sitting down with Paul and Michelle at your kitchen table and having them tip you off as personal parenting coaches. This book is accessible to all, the spirituality from the Jewish tradition guides at one level, the deep professional roots and experience of both authors will inspire on a second level, and the very funny family stories will spark a smile and attitude to try something new in us all. Jewish Spiritual Parenting is a very modern and timely approach to the complications of parenting in today's world. Technology, social media, the LGBTQI community, and the inclusion of differently-abled children are all handled with relevant and valuable suggestions. The reader gets a bonus, and a comprehensive range of ideas, as the book is written with alternating perspectives from both Paul and Michelle. I liked the heft of the Jewish rituals and prayers combined with the wisdom of the authors' breadth of education and experience plus the very sweet tales from their own family.

The book is non-judgmental and covers a number of important lessons on how to balance and place priority on family, friends and community. For those with children, the compassionate and sometimes very funny stories told by Rabbi Paul and Michelle November will resonate immediately, especially those around co-parenting, camp adventures, mystery vacations and raising tech-savvy children in a social media world. In addition, the significance of tradition, and passing on key values to a new generation of children searching for emotional balance is a valuable lesson illustrated throughout the journey. The true meaning and importance of L'dor vador, from one generation to another has become the most important lesson I learned from this book. I can't recommend "Jewish Spiritual Parenting" highly enough-a 5 star read in my humble opinion.

Good ideas on how to raise children who are religious By Israel Drazin Jewish history is replete with stories of children who did not follow in the footsteps of their parents. This happened to Moses whose two sons are not even mentioned in the Bible after they were born and whose grandson, according to tradition, disobeyed the Torah and although only a Levite, he assumed the role of a priest. Two of Moses' brother Aaron's sons were killed, according to the Bible, for acting improperly. Judaism's greatest rational philosopher Maimonides’s son Abraham, while not forsaking Judaism in any way, stopped being a rationalist and became a mystic. The great rationalist Abraham ibn Ezra's son converted. And so on and so on. This situation, of course is not unique to Judaism. But is a human problem.Rabbi Kipnes and Michelle November offer sound advice how to avoid this problem and how to raise children who "become partners with God. They point out what is important, what to say, and what to do.their book contains eleven easy to read chapters followed by sections called "Try this," which contains good practical advice.
