About the Author

Raised on a Northern Montana wheat farm, Sheralynn Ries’s first experiences with cronehood came from her maternal Dutch grandmother, an independent, opinionated, and inquisitive woman. Ries considers Montana to be “the last best place,” but currently lives less than a mile from the Pentagon. A well-established crone, Ries shares her insights on life and aging through seminars and writing.

Vivian McDermott lives in a Montana town where her family invests in real estate and oil and gas exploration. She completed her degree in education during the women’s liberation movement. McDermott has written since her Grandma Mazelle first taught her to write letters.

McDermott and Ries began collaborating on books when they were in their late fifties, believing that by sharing their experiences, they could enrich the lives of others.

The Crone's List.....a great relationship guide By Amazon Customer It’s a great story highlighting who they dated learning about the potential of forces outside their control. It’s a light hearted tale about what they learned along the way of their journey in dating and relationships.The endlessly imaginative care packages mixed with the value of sharing other people's words of wisdom helped others to gain confidence and self-esteem were quite entertaining. There's some good advice to learn by sharing our experiences and maybe avoid the potholes one could fall into and the rabbit holes one could go down along the way to finding a mate. My all time favorite from the list... If the train doesn’t stop at your station, it wasn’t your train!

I am not much of a reader, but found myself unable to put the book down once I started. I finished reading it at about 4 AM. The book would be a great addition to any school library. Lots of words of wisdom and great advice for young people today.I read a free copy of the book and plan to buy several as gifts to give to young people that are in the beginning stages of boy/girl relationships. They can learn a lot about making good decisions when looking for their lifetime mate. Thank you to the authors for their experiences that helped to make this a very interesting book for anyone to read.

Verrall An enjoyable, lighthearted read that takes you through the lives of two "Crone's" as they team up to influence their grand-daughter/God-daughter to pursue her college education in earnest rather than entertaining her stated goal of finding a husband. This would make an excellent book club read for young women getting ready for college, maybe a college resident to use as a springboard for conversations/team building/getting-to-know-you activities. Goodness knows young women need to recognize the perils involved in certain relationships. The Crone's give good advise in a non-preachy way. The recipes for care packages are an added plus that parents of college-bound girls will appreciate.

In terms of full disclosure, I must say that David Levy and I are personal friends, and were professors at the University of Oklahoma until our retirements. This, and his second volume, are very interesting accounts of the University's development. But, the strength of both volumes is in the fact that they are accounts rooted in the characteristics and history of a regional culture. The style of both volumes is unusually clear and unpretentious. Both are an utter pleasure to read.

I'm sure he had ample opportunity to leave Norman for greener academic pastures yet chose to make the Univ. of Oklahoma his home. I was fortunate to have him for two courses, Mark Twain's America and American Intellectual History. He fostered my love of all things Twain and contempt for all things Fenimore Cooper. No one is more deserving of the honor of being OU's official historian.

About the Author Neesha lives with her husband and cat in Ipswich, Massachusetts located on the North Shore of Boston. The journey has not only brought them closer together as a couple but also has led them to the Catholic Church. She loves reading, writing, and spending time in monasteries for a quiet getaway. By MCJ This is a beautifully written, heartfelt and genuine story of a couple who is experiencing difficulty conceiving. It allows us to accompany Amelia and Jake on their journey, as with great desire they long for the fruit of their marriage. We get to share in their setbacks, their frustrations, the suffering they experience, and how they cope with it as a married couple.The book is never preachy. Amelia and Jake's choice to use natural methods over IVF is their personal choice, cooperating with nature and God's will, but not a condemnation of her sister Claire's IVF pregnancy. Despite their desire for a child of their own, Amelia and her husband want to do things right, even if that choice means that ultimately they may remain childless. The book shows the beauty of how Jake and Amelia support each other in their marriage and live out their promise to be true to each other in good times and in bad.I love this book especially because it gives me, the father of five children, three of whom are alive and two lost in miscarriages, insight into the enormous struggle couples are experiencing when dealing with infertility. I love this book also because it gives me a little bit of insight into how it affects women in a way that we men normally don't get to see. As Amelia says in her story, pregnancy is visible, but infertility remains invisible. Thank you, Neesha Oliver, for making infertility visible and bringing it into the open.

About the Author Shelia Yvette Smalley, Ph.D. lives in Leesburg, Florida. For more than 30 years, she has prided herself with a wide variety of educational experiences which include Head Start teacher, k-8 classroom teacher, director of a child care center, Title I Reading and Math specialist and counselor, instructor for the General Education Degree program, assistant professor of Education at Bethune-Cookman University, elementary school principal, television anchor and instructional teacher, program specialist for training and development (school district level), and director of School Improvement (university level). She retired as an associate professor of Exceptional Student Education, Department of Child, Family, and Community Service, at the University of Central Florida, College of Education, in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Smalley’s research interests include working with culturally and linguistically diverse exceptional students and their families and at-risk communities which make her an exceptional woman to look up to. In June 2015, Dr. Smalley retired as the founder and educational leader of the Humanities and Fine Arts Charter School in Leesburg, Florida. Today, she serves as the pastor of Macedonia Church of the Living God, Inc. in Leesburg, Florida. She is a fourth generation female minister and the third generation woman pastor of her church, which was founded by her great aunt and mother in May, 1954. Her writings are found in educational journals, such as Urban Education, The Educational Forum, Journal of At-Risk Issues and Preventing School Failure, as well as chapters in textbooks. Presently, she serves as a life coach, consultant to schools, professional and community organizations.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Wondefully crafted mermaid story By Beverly Clark I bought this book for my granddaughter to read over the weekend. She loves mermaids just like my daughter did at her age which is 7, so I've read countless mermaid books over the years. This one really stood out. The attention to detail is obvious and I also liked the illustrations. The author places an illustration over a photograph and it really makes the picture pop. My explanation doesn't do it justice but I think your child will love the look as much as my granddaughter did.From a teacher's viewpoint, the author crafted a story that gives young readers an engaging story and keeps them reading. I'm now retired from teaching but this is a book that I would have loved to have had in my classroom library. Delightful book and I definitely recommend it.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Impressed an 11 Year Old AND Her Dad! By Big Jay Without giving the book away, this is a very age appropriate story for younger readers. My 11 year old is really into Mermaids (thanks Disney!) and normally finds herself bored with books. We read this book together and she thoroughly enjoyed it!Personally, I thought the book flowed very well. There's a bit of intrigue and I enjoyed reading it with my daughter. The plot is clear, but nothing is really given away.This book is well suited, in my opinion, for a variety of ages.

Most of the pictures are just cropped or was copied from the internet. It was a major turn off. Also, the story is too short and we really did not like the plot. I really expected a lot from this book. I feel in love when I saw the cover of the book. Tsk. Tsk. I am totally disappointed.

By shoboni Haven't got around to reading them yet, but this set is a nice, cost effective way to buy all six books in a nice set instead of shelling out all the money it would take to order each one separateI will give a fair warning that the page count is a little deceptive because these are printed in a pretty large font that takes up a lot of page space, far larger than what most people would be used to from something else in this reading level like a Goosebumps book.

I found myself with the link available to write one, however, and just could not refrain from making a short stab at it. This set of tapes contains wisdom not just for couples but for anyone, at any time. A comprehensive base of spiritual wisdom drawn from world religions and and the best of thought is condensed into this perspective. Moreover, the suggestions that follow from it are practical and workable. How I wish I had discovered this set of tapes sooner! How I wish it were in hard copy. If you are in need of help, go here. The opening message by Stephen (both he and his wife are conducting the workshop from which the tapes were made) put me off a bit at first, with its quality of incantation. I realize now that this was likely the leading of an opening meditation. Continue. You will not be disappointed!

Met my expectations By Suzanna Davis I had high expectations of this because his book A Gradual Awakening was my introduction to meditation and a new way of seeing in the lost and crazy days following the 1970's for me. I have listened to many audiobooks since then and even attended a vipassana (which I left after 5 days because it did not live up to its promise of being " the essence of what the Buddha taught, it is not a religion; rather, it is the cultivation of human values leading to a life which is good for oneself and good for others." NOT. ) I am a big Pema Chodron fan, I love the Dalai Lama and yet there is something new and more assimilatable about much of what they say here. It starts out slow but stay with it... I recommend it to anyone who is open to learning about themselves and love.
