Beauty is skin deep because you can have the "perfect body" and have an ugly soul and spirit. I pray this book touches the lives of those that don't see the beauty that they have and reach out to others to enrich their lives and share their Beauty with others. In a world where beauty is placed so heavily, on your physical appearance, we tend to forget that 1) beauty is in the eye of the beholder and 2)it really is skin deep. This book gives you a reminder of that! I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Finished the book in one sitting By Judith M. Wachs Even knowing the author personally didn't prepare me for the knock out prose and sheer honesty of the horror this family went through and the love of life and each other that they found at the endLynne. You really wrote a winning saga .i was overwhelmed with emotion

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Honest and Moving By Richard B. The author's honesty and clarity about her family's true life events, the deep love, sorrow, constant hope and equal disappointment are captured so well in this highly readable tragedy of one child's drug addiction. Fortunately, it is also a story of triumph over tragedy because of Lynne’s and Stu’s commitment to protect and love Brady without fail. The author's prose and conversational style – her thoughtful way of telling her family’s story – really draws the reader in. With Lynne’s telling, I felt very involved in so much of the family dynamics, experiencing Lynne’s conflicted life, wanting Jaime to succeed, knowing the likely outcome, and worrying for young Brady’s future. This tension between knowing that tragedy was ahead and wanting to know how Jaime and Brady will fare in succeeding days, kept me hooked. I found that once I started reading I was drawn in and quickly finished. Although, I never faced the challenges of addiction with my own kids, I found the book to be much broader in its appeal, especially in how parents try their best to make the right decisions for their children when, as most of us know, there is never a perfect answer.Because the book so immerses the reader in the author’s deeply personal recollections, if you are a parent, the story is deeply “relatable” as it makes a very personal connection, and, while reading, brings to mind one’s own life raising kids, the mistakes, joys and tragedies. The book also reinforced my belief that most parents do their best for their children. Indeed, after raising two kids myself and recalling the many, many challenges, I honestly don't see how, in the context of the real-time events of daily life, Lynne and Stu could have loved Jaime more or done better as parents. And Brady, his gems of wisdom nicely placed to introduce each chapter, is indeed a lucky child to have such great parents.I highly recommend this book and I am sure many parents will thank Lynne for writing such a touching and totally honest account of her family struggles.

Often overlooked, the student demonstration at Bowling Green State University was the first and most successful 1960s campus protest - and a key point in the transition from 1950s social mores to 1960s activism. What began as a protest against outdated rules about dating and student behaviour quickly turned toward political objectives about civil liberties and ousted the university president. The authors, two of whom were present on campus during the demonstration, tell the story of how what began as dissent against old schoolmarm rules quickly turned into a fully-fledged 1960s crusade, with new issues and tactics. Feminist activists played a leading role, and the uprising succeeded in advancing the civil liberties of women. Drawing on the sociological ideas of Weber, Durkheim, and Marx, this book depicts how young activists broke the 1950s mold, little aware that many of their ideals would be echoed in many important 1960s protests. It is a vivid portrait of how the 1950s became the 1960s in America.

Uprising at Bowling Green: How the Quiet Fifties Became the Political Sixties, by Norbert Wiley, Joseph B Perry Jr, Arthur G. Neal

Review Uprising at Bowling Green represents a useful and worthwhile read about an important, early chapter of the 1960s that up until now has been lost, stolen, or strayed. ---International Review of Modern SociologyWriting about a long-ago protest at Bowling Green State University, Wiley, Perry, and Neal tell a vivid sixties story that significantly enhances our understanding of that tumultuous decade. The campus events at Bowling Green are a prism through which we can understand what happened over forty years ago as we continue to come to grips with those times. Until we settle our score with the many Bowling Greens which combined institutional repression and surprising faculty and student activism we will not understand who we were and who we have become. --Ben Agger, The University of Texas Arlington, and author of The Sixties at 40 (Paradigm 2009)As the authors point out, the Bowling Green student movement was one of the few 1960s campus uprisings in which there was a strong alliance between faculty and students, and this was a key to its success. Revolt from the bottom is seldom successful, as we see in comparing state revolutions, unless it coincides with and fuses networks with revolt from near the top. --Randall Collins, University of Pennsylvania

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Perhaps the first 50 pages were useful and interesting By Gilbert A. Sanow II A very scholarly presentation. Too much so to be readable. Very repititious in several areas. Needed a serious editing to make it more readable. Illustrations would have helped, as would the use of larger font in printing. I bought it to learn how what I experienced at BGSU (yes, I was there) fit into the general scheme of things. Perhaps the first 50 pages were useful and interesting, but after that, it got really dull. I finished it, hoping to justify my investment of time and money, but never did.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Amazing debut!!! By Kelly with Sugar Shack This is definitely one of those reads that stays with you after you finish. There were so many different elements that made this book amazing. Mel did a superb job of writing and sucking me in from page one and for sure left my dying for more at the end.I dont want to gice anything away with my review, everyone needs to experience this for themselves. The characters are amazing, I absolutley feel in love with Lucy, she is one strong female that has been through a lot and I was left rooting for her the whole way. James, what can you say, he is a hot movie star that has a heart of gold and would do anything for Lucy. But sometimes the past has to stay in the past.I would without a doubt recommend this book to everyone! It is a book that I am so thankful came across my path. The characters and writing will suck you in and leave you reeling!! The emotions are wow. There were moments I was laughing and then bam my heart broke! I can not wait for the next book from Mel, I will be eagerly waiting!!

She reconnects with James with whom she had an amazing year when she was 18 By a unicorn love blog This is the first installment in the Destiny Series.Lucy is an Australian woman married with three kids. She reconnects with James with whom she had an amazing year when she was 18.Fast forward twenty something years later, James a mega superstar actor. Rekindled emotions and passion occur amongst deception and lies from the marriage she thought was true.We see Lucy navigate and pick up the pieces of her marriage and reunite with James. Lucy was a strong character who made you want to root for her and say go girl.James has had the belief that they will see each and have their forever so it was nice to see that.Don’t want to give too much of story away but *SPOILER*theres is a HEA.I enjoyed the characters, James and Lucy. The writing was descriptive and unique.Since this is my personal review, everything is subjective. What didn’t work for me doesn’t mean it won’t necessarily work for you. The storyline didn’t enrapture me as I thought it would. Doesn’t mean it won’t work for you.A personal gripe/issue which doesn’t derail from the story is the use of exclamation points. I’m fine with them as they’re expressive and make a point, but I felt like they were used way too much, giving off the expression that the characters were always talking in a high-pitched voice, which was annoying for me. Again, this my issue.3/5*ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

If this is the first book, I can't wait for the second By K Trotter I am so glad I read this book, as a lover of romance novels, I was prepared to give this first time writer a chance as the story sounded so good.Wow was I surprised, the author put my heart into words. She wrote paragraphs that I know my heart would love to write down.Lucy is happily married or so she thinks and she just happens to know a famous movie star. When their worlds collide again and her normal life takes a huge turn, she finds out just how much of a friend someone can be even if it has been 22 years since they last saw each other, but should the past stay in the past and is it a memory for a reason. This was a fun book to read, easy to digest and drew you in very early on. It made you fall in love and wish you could express your heart in those exact words, thank you Mel, I can't wait for the next installment

A FORGE OF VALOR is book #4 in Morgan Rice’s bestselling epic fantasy series KINGS AND SORCERERS (which begins with RISE OF THE DRAGONS, a free download)! In A FORGE OF VALOR, Kyra slowly returns from the verge of death, healed by Kyle’s love and mysterious power. As he sacrifices for her, she regains her strength—yet not without a price. She presses Alva for the secret of her lineage, and he finally reveals all about her mother. Given a chance to quest to the source of her power, Kyra must make a crucial choice: whether to complete her training or journey to help her father, who wallows in the capital dungeon, his execution pending. Aidan, Motley at his side, also strives to rescue his father, trapped in the perilous capital, while in the far corner of the kingdom, Merk, amazed by what he discovers in the Tower of Ur, braces himself against a massive troll invasion. His Tower surrounded, he must fight alongside his fellow Watchers, to defend his nation’s most precious relic. Dierdre finds herself facing a full-fledged Pandesian invasion in her embattled city of Ur. As her precious city is destroyed all around her, she has to decide whether to escape or to make a final, heroic stand. Alec, meanwhile, finds himself at sea with his cryptic newfound friend, sailing to a land he’s never been, one even more mysterious than his companion. It is here that, finally, he learns of his destiny—and of the last hope for Escalon. With its strong atmosphere and complex characters, A FORGE OF VALOR is a sweeping saga of knights and warriors, of kings and lords, of honor and valor, of magic, destiny, monsters and dragons. It is a story of love and broken hearts, of deception, ambition and betrayal. It is fantasy at its finest, inviting us into a world that will live with us forever, one that will appeal to all ages and genders. Book #5 in KINGS AND SORCERERS will be published soon. “If you thought that there was no reason left for living after the end of the Sorcerer’s Ring series, you were wrong. Morgan Rice has come up with what promises to be another brilliant series, immersing us in a fantasy of trolls and dragons, of valor, honor, courage, magic and faith in your destiny. Morgan has managed again to produce a strong set of characters that make us cheer for them on every page.…Recommended for the permanent library of all readers that love a well-written fantasy.” --Books and Movie Reviews, Roberto Mattos (regarding Rise of the Dragons)

I have done some audible and some reading; both work well for this series. The only negtive thing I could say is I am tired of hearing/reading about how they "know this will be the end - they will die" . I so want the "evil" dudes killed faster but the story line is richer with the good/evil struggle as Morgan presents it.If you lie action, adventure, magic and enjoying the characters maturing before your eyes/ears, this is a good choice.

This one does make you want to strangle Krya and tell her stop wasting you chances when you know what you're supposed to do. I'm going to have to retread all 4 books because they were that good.

While I anxiously read all 4 books, I can't help but feel tired of the "never ending" story. I enjoyed the storyline. But, It has been too long and drawn out. Kyra's character is forever making the wrong decision, of course like that of a young and inexperienced child. You know everything she does will bring some sort of negative consequence. I started skimming the battle scenes because they were too wordy. Don't get me wrong. The author has a fabulous imagination for this fantastical story. This is the first I have read from this author. I just believe it should have been more concise. The editing could have been better. Some characters' names were interchanged from time to time. Sometimes a paragraph would be partially repeated. All in all, I like the story but I'm ready for the end. I'll have to think hard about #5 when it is available. I may not continue with it.

Dyslexia 101: Truths, Myths and What Really Works, by Marianne Sunderland

About the Author Marianne Sunderland is a veteran homeschool mother who has been homeschooling her 8 children (7 of whom are dyslexic) since 1995. She is also a popular homeschool consultant, a certified Orton-Gillingham tutor, owner of the popular web site, HomeschoolingWithDyslexia.com and author of Dyslexia 101: Truths, Myths and What Really Works, a parent’s guide to navigating the world of dyslexia. Marianne understands how it feels to be completely overwhelmed and frustrated by the load of information (and misinformation) about dyslexia that exists today. Marianne began her homeschooling career in 1995 out of a desire to give her kids the best education possible. Despite a rich educational experience of travel and individualized teaching, her oldest child, though obviously very bright, struggled mysteriously to crack the code of reading. Educational testing revealed dyslexia. Thus began Marianne’s search for the ‘cure’ for her son’s dyslexia. An educated parent and avid reader, Marianne knew that without a strong foundation in reading skills, her son would struggle in all areas of his life and education. Years later, that boy with his unique and individualized home education, graduated from high school with honors and holds a world record as the youngest American to sail around the world alone. Since those early days of tears and exasperation, Marianne has been successfully homeschooling her children with dyslexia using individualized, multi-sensory and research-based methods. All people with dyslexia can learn to read, write and spell with the right methods! Marianne is a popular speaker at homeschool groups, private schools, conferences and conventions. Her unique perspective gained by homeschooling her own children with dyslexia has helped her to have both the wisdom and understanding that parents need.
