The second English edition of Micro Polo is a series in three parts expanded from the first English edition with 68 additional images. The series is suitable for children age five and over. To help children learn English, synonyms or explanations accompany difficult words in the text. Part I Adventures (53 images) Part II Monsters (49 images) Part III Acrobatics (65 images) This humorous and compassionate story depicts the peculiar adventures of this little crawdad and his friendship with the boy, interweaving birds, spiders, snails, slugs and worms. The little fellow is twice rescued and earns his name "Micro Polo". Best of all, he turns out to have many personal qualities; his playful nature helps the boy improve his grandma's sad mood. The language and images are designed to entertain, catch the eye and hold the attention of children. The story offers much to learn about family love, friendship, empathy and compassion as well as a lesson or two about refraction. In brief, the series is an altogether pleasant children's picture story for edification and entertainment.

As the story develops, it turns into a touching account of friendship between the crawdad and the boy who finds him there. The boy finally considers him a true buddy. Most striking about the book are the stunning photos of Micro Polo in action. The author has managed to show Micro Polo expressing various human emotions and performing actions you wouldn't expect a crawdad to do. Other creatures get a remarkable showing too: birds, spiders, snails, slugs and worms. There's an amusing dialogue between two snails and marvelous photos of birds. All in all, this is a highly original story of a boy and a crawdad who become bosom buddies and manage to nudge the boy's grandma out of the doldrums. Gradually, you will become a buddy of Micro Polo too. The 2010 Kindle edition has been expanded. It is now a series of three titles in English, Spanish and Chinese. The series of three titles shows Micro Polo in various roles--adventurer, monster and acrobat. You can get them as a set or individually. I give it a rating of four stars.

It is told in 1st person narrative from the perspective of a grandson "Johnny"; along the lines of a daily journal. There are a number of subtexts occurring. It is apparent that the two primary human characters both have life issues to work out. The grandma has grown listless and bored, and her grandson is tasked with lifting her mood and getting her interested in her hobbies again. The title character is a crayfish. What makes this a valuable read for children is that the narrative builds upon a "stream of consciousness" motif: something rarely seen in the children's genre. It is odd that the two characters can both find balance merely through the adoption of a simple crustacean.I enjoyed the digital images and the manner in which they were manipulated. They are colorful, and easy on the eyes. This is a unique and thoughtful book to read to a young child, and should allow for much discussion during the read.

I talks about a boy and his grandma finding a crawdad. The story continues wtih training of new tricks for the crawdad. The book is quite long, so it will keep the child busy. There is photography combined with photoshopping. With each turn of the page there is photo of a amazing photographer.
